Through its infrastructure arm, the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA), The Department of Tourism (DOT) has allocated P15 million for the detailed architectural and engineering studies prior to the rehabilitation and restoration of the Manila Central Post Office that was razed by fire in May last year.
Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco stressed it is “imperative” to support the preservation, rehabilitation and restoration of the country’s tourism assets including its cultural and heritage sites.
In a recent statement, Frasco said “the Manila Post Office has witnessed the life and times of our nation, forging friendships, familial ties, commerce and trade, and etching history through its postal services,”
The Manila Post Office is considered a “neoclassical building and architectural icon and one of the oldest landmarks in the country’s capital city. It sits along the bank of the Pasig River at Liwasang Bonifacio.
