DOST-TAPI’s “Lunduyan” Shines Light on Filipino Inventors and Innovators

Mandaluyong City, Metro Manila – The Department of Science and Technology – Technology Application and Promotion Institute (DOST-TAPI) celebrated a milestone event on October 2 at the Podium Hall titled “Lunduyan” This culminating event marked DOST-TAPI’s 2023 Call for Invention, Innovation, and Technopreneurship Proposals under programs IPRAP, GALING, TECHNICOM, and Venture Financing.

With an attendance of over 200 individuals from the academe, CSR companies, DOST, GOCC, LGU, MEDIA, MSMEs, NGA, NGO, NPO, and private inventors, the event was more than just a showcase—it was a testament to the power and potential of the Filipino innovation landscape.

Out of the many entries, 28 ground-breaking technologies and innovation projects were presented, spanning multiple sectors such as Food and Manufacturing, Health and Wellness, Agriculture, Industry, Energy and Environment, and MSMEs.

Marvin Dela Cruz, Event Head and Head of Applied Communications Unit for Inventors (ACU-i), expressed his aspiration: “As we push for more recognition of our beneficiaries, we hope that with it comes a recognition of the societal needs addressed by their technologies. This should lead to more collaboration and support for our shared goals, ultimately moving towards the betterment of our society.”

The overwhelming support for this initiative by DOST-TAPI is evident in its allocation of over P30 million for invention and technology development and intellectual property rights protection. An additional P12 million has been earmarked for commercialization projects for MSMEs as of August 30, 2023.

DOST Secretary Renato Solidum Jr. remarked, “The DOST-TAPI has established 13 collaborations with various DOST regional offices, inventors’ organizations, and profit institutions through various writeshops and marketing campaigns. From this combined effort, approximately one thousand one hundred and fifty potential inventors, innovators, and technopreneurs were reached by DOST-TAPI in just three months of gathering proposals.”

“Ang DOST-TAPI ay nakabuo ng 13 collaboration sa iba’t ibang DOST regional offices, inventors’ organizations, and profit institutions through various writeshops and marketing campaigns. Mula sa pinagsamang pwersang ito, humigit kumulang na isang libo isang daan at limampung potensyal na inventors, innovators, at technopreneurs ang narating DOST-TAPI sa loob lamang ng tatlong buwang pagkalap ng mga proposals.”

DOST-TAPI Director Atty. Marion Ivy D. Decena reflected on the journey: “We began this journey with two primary objectives: to showcase the success of the 2023 Call for Proposal Period and to encourage potential partners for the innovative initiatives of DOST-TAPI. As this significant day concludes, it’s clear that we not only achieved these objectives but also set a more positive future for our local innovators and inventors.”

“Nagsimula tayo sa paglalakbay na ito na may dalawang pangunahing layunin: ipakita ang tagumpay ng 2023 Call for Proposal Period at manghikayat ng mga potensyal na kasangga para sa mga makabagong inisyatibo ng DOST-TAPI. Sa pagtatapos ng mahalagang araw na ito, malinaw na hindi lamang natin naabot ang mga layuning ito, kung’di naitakda rin natin ang mas positibong kinabukasan para sa ating mga local innovators at inventors.”

The event garnered robust corporate backing and received overwhelmingly positive feedback, underscoring Lunduyan’s success and potential.
