LEGAZPI CITY – The Department of Agriculture in Bicol (DA-5) has distributed farm inputs to evacuees in Tabaco City affected by the continuing unrest of Mayon Volcano.
In a phone interview on Friday, DA-5 spokesperson Lovella Guarin said farm inputs worth PHP360,972 were delivered on Jan. 28 to support the establishment of communal gardens in five evacuation centers in Tabaco.
The assistance included garden tools, laminated sacks and vegetable seeds provided under the High Value Crops Development Program.
DA-5 also assisted in the evacuation and pooling of animals from areas within the six-kilometer permanent danger zone.
“Drugs, biologics, animal feeds, as well as drums and ropes for animal evacuation centers, were also provided,” she said.
Records showed that at least 583 animals were transferred to safer locations.
Animal pooling sites were established in Daraga, Guinobatan with four sites, Camalig with two sites, Legazpi City with four sites, and Ligao City with one site.
The DA continues to coordinate with the Albay Provincial Veterinary Office, local government units, and farmers’ cooperatives and associations to address the needs of farmers and livestock raisers.
“Farmers may coordinate with their barangay officials and their municipal or city veterinary offices so DA-Bicol can extend assistance,” Guarin added.
She said the DA will also conduct training for women and farmers affected by the continued unrest of Mayon Volcano. (PNA)
