The Economic Journalists Association of the Philippines (EJAP) and the San Miguel Corp. (SMC) will host the first first hybrid forum for President Marcos’ administration’s economic managers on August 17 amidst the lingering Covid-19 pandemic.
The 2022 EJAP-SMC economic forum, bannered by the theme “The Road Ahead: Priorities for the Next 6 Years.” aims to discuss and explore the administration’s near and medium-term economic recovery plans.
The August 17 event will be held from 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. at the Ayuntamiento de Manila via Zoom. It will also be streamlined on EJAP Pilipinas Facebook page.
Expected to join the forum are Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Governor Felipe Medalla, who will discuss the central bank’s inflation and monetary policy as well as initiatives for the financial sector; Finance Secretary Benjamin Diokno on the fiscal side and taxation measures of the administration; Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Arsenio Balisacan who will tackle the country’s growth prospect; and Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman who will discuss the government’s spending priorities during the term of President Marcos.
Private sector executives have also been invited to the forum to speak or give their reactions on the administration’s recovery strategies and offer their insights to the economic managers.
Joining the panel of reactors are SMC chief finance officer and treasurer Ferdinand Constantino, BPI lead economist Emilio Neri Jr., and Security Bank senior vice president and treasurer Orencio Andre Ibarra III.
EJAP president Cai Ordinario said they “expect the forum to answer many of our questions on what’s in store for the next six years, and we hope to discuss the challenges and opportunities as we recover from the pandemic.”
EJAP is the country’s premier group of business journalists and is composed of over 90 business reporters.
