The regional director of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region 02 inspired the young minds of the different public schools in Tuguegarao City during the two-day S&T Fair cum SciMatchlympics of the Department of Education (DepEd) Division of Tuguegarao, June 8-9, 2022.
Dir. Virginia G. Bilgera said the next generation plays a crucial role in building a resilient, inclusive and sustainable Philippines.
To realize this, she said, more scientists, researchers, engineers, academicians, and mathematicians are needed to strengthen the science and technology workforce.
“The scarcity of a technology-based workforce is the sole reason why we are intensifying our S&T Scholarships program in the countryside. We need you” Dir. Bilgera said.
With the rapid technological change, she added, there is a need to prepare and strengthen the capacity to cope up with the existing and new challenges amidst a pandemic or not.
The DOST R02 chief also mentioned the department’s efforts in the field of research and development and scientific services such as the Balik Scientist program, Niche R&D Centers of different State Universities and Colleges in the region, oneSTore.PH, among others.
Further, Dir. Bilgera lauded the school division for pushing activities that will stir up students’ interest in the field of S&T. Meanwhile, DOST – PSTC Batanes Provincial Director Nora T. Garcia and ReDim Unit Head, Engr. Mark Gil Hizon, served as judges in ‘𝐿𝑖𝑘ℎ𝑎’ Full Research under the Physical Science and Life Science categories. #dostPH#ScienceForThePeople#DOSTRegion02
