The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) and the Philippine Government Employees Association (PGEA) have teamed to improve public awareness and counter fake news.
With the theme “Totoo Tayo: PGEA x GSIS, Laban sa Fake News,” the GSIS-PGEA Speakers’ Bureau was launched early this month to train PGEA leaders as credible sources of information within their offices and communities.
“One of the things we want our members to know is the truth. There is so much fake news that’s why we partnered with the PGEA to create a speakers’ bureau to share information about GSIS projects,” GSIS President and General Manager Arnulfo Veloso said in a recent newsbrief.
The two-day workshop, held on May 7 to May 8, 2025, served as the pilot session of the bureau, with 27 participants from Luzon and Mindanao completing the training. Veloso said they also want to get input on how the GSIS can still improve its services and products.
PGEA National President Esperanza Ocampo emphasized the importance of the partnership in shielding public workers from disinformation.
“We will do everything not only to educate ourselves but also to educate others and to be a vanguard of the GSIS. We are eager to do this because it will protect government employees. Many are truly saying that this speakers’ bureau is a great initiative. Because of the collaboration between GSIS and PGEA, it became possible,” she said.
The speakers’ bureau stems from a memorandum of understanding signed by GSIS and PGEA in June 2024 to enhance education and engagement across government agencies. (With PNA)
